As the title says, here’s a little guide to better cool the GTX series cards, will probably work with earlier cards too.

As some might have found out,Nvidia’s reference Fan Profile is crap,i have a GTX260 and my fan would sit at 40% and would’nt get faster till temps were hitting 82°C/179°F.
I know the cards can handle up too 100°C,but anything over 80 was far too hot for me,so with the help of Rivatuner, using low-level fan control my card sits at 62°C when folding!.

What you need – RivaTuner

Ok,install Rivatuner, start it and it will build a registry database, just let it do it’s thing

When it starts, you will see this, now click on the Power users tab.
Scroll down the list too Rivatuner/Fan,expand the tree and double click on AutoFanSpeedControl, enter a value of 3 as shown, this will allow for changing low level fan settings

now click the Main tab at the top of Rivatuner, and under where it tells you your Graphics card, where it say’s customise, click the little arrow, which will open a menu, click on the picture of a graphics card.

Now we should see this window.

Now,put a checkmark in Enable low level control,a window will pop upyou can either click, reboot or detect now,if you click detect now and nothing shows up then reboot and come back to this step, usually clicking detect now is sufficiant.

Now make sure auto is clicked and enter these values, remember these are the values i have mine set at but you can tweak them if you want, for example Duty cycle min,is what speed your fan will be at idle,i have mine at 44%
Duty cycle min – 44
Duty cycle max – 100
T min – 40
T range – 40
T operating – 110
T low limit – 0
T high limit – 110
When done click apply,(if your card is warm, you should hear the fan ramp up straight away),then click the little disk icon under fan profile too save the low level fan profile.

Now enter a name for saving,i used FanTweak.

Ok,once saved click Ok and you should be back to Rivatuner’s main window, hopefully everything went smooth.

Now we want our fan profile to start when our comps start,so theres a few things we need to do here, firstly in Rivatuner, click on the Launcher tab and click the Green plus icon, you will see this, just keep it the same as in the pic,and click ok.

Now this will pop up,Enter a name in this box,i just used the same as the saved profile FanTweak.

You will notice when you type a name, all the boxes that are grayed out will become available, put a checkmark in Associated Fan Profile, from the drop down box to the right, choose Low-Level,and in the big drop down box it should show your saved fan profile, then click Ok.

Now click on the scheduler tab, click the Green plus icon, and in the window shown, enter a name for the task, and make sure it runs task at windows startup, then click Ok.

Click the Green plus icon again, enter same info as above for task, but in the drop down box select run task at Rivatuner Start Up,click Ok

Now your Launcher and Scheduler tabs should look like this.

Well hopefully that was easy to do for you all,as most of you know,UAC is a pain in the butt,if you have Rivatuner Start it’s self by checking this box,

Windows UAC will pop up everytime you start your comp asking if you want to allow this program too run,so we dont want that,we want it to automatically run with no user intervention. To do this we need to use the Task Sheduler,so click Start menu and type in Task Scheduler on the window that pops up click the Create Task on the right hand menu.

Ok,in the box that pops up give the task a name, and make sure Run with the highest Privileges is checked, like this.

On the triggers tab,click New

On the window that pops up,click the dropdown box and choose begin the task At Log On,leave all other options as is.

Triggers tab should look like this.

Now click Actions tab, click New,on the window that pops up,make sure the Actio drop down box says Start a Program, click on the browse button and navigate your way to Rivatuners program folder and click on Rivatuner.exe, and in the Add Arguments box put in /T this will start the program in the system tray, click Ok.

Now click the New button again, this time when you browse for a progam, navigate to rivatuners folder again and click on the RivatunerWrapper.exe, again put the /T in the add arguments to start in tray.

You can add the rivatunerwrapper.exe once more but use the /S switch, your Actions Tab should look like this.

The conditions and Settings Tabs should be like this.

That should be it,Rivatuner should start with no intervention from UAC,and your fan profile should be working on startup.

Hope this helps you guy’s to keep those temps down cuz no one likes to spend a good amount of money on a high end Graphics Card for it to melt when folding
