There is a good chance you were playing around with the X11 settings, and you messed it up. Well good thing there is probably a backup laying around the computer.
# ls /etc/X11
pick a backup file then replace
# sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
then reboot. Your done =]
